Reading Resources

What level is that book?Click here to go to Scholastic's Book Wizard Site where you can type in the name of the book your child is reading and find out what level (a - z) it has been labeled. It doesn't always work, but it is the most reliable source we have to date.

Leveling Explained. We all learn at different paces in different ways. After we assess the level we feel is correct, I like to offer students a "band" of text that should be just right. For example, a student might assess at an O, but I believe reading at a N,O,P band makes sense. Bottom line, read books that are appropriate for your current skills and you will grow. Growing three levels per grade is most typical. This article illustrates what characteristics makes books gradually more complex.

Read To Me Epic Books Read to me book series on Epic levels K - M.
If your child is still working towards a fourth grade goal of independently reading books at level Q, R or S, this is a lovely list of slightly lower level texts that can be read aloud to your child on EPIC. ( Note as of the time I published this, EPIC school accounts can only be used during the school day. However, you can get some great ideas for books from this list and perhaps read them to your child.)
